Four things to know before you price an Annandale door

How much does it cost to replace a kitchen or basement door in Annandale?

About the same as a front door. A back or basement entry door is still a full entry door, so figure $1,800 to $5,500 each with installation; patio units run $2,500 to $6,500. Doors were the third project this Annandale homeowner gave us. The project replaced the entry door and storm door at the kitchen, and the entry door and storm door at the basement. All four old doors were removed and hauled off.

Both new entry doors are ProVia Legacy smooth steel in Snow Mist White inside and out, in the 306 style with three small glass lites stepped across the top. Each one hangs the same way as the door it replaced. The hardware is black: a Schlage Flair lever, a thumbturn deadbolt and ball-bearing hinges, plus a security plate and a peep sight on each door. Each entry door now sits behind a Mountain Berry Red ProVia Spectrum 291, a full-view glass door with black handles, two closers and two screens apiece. Outside, the frame and brickmold of both entry doors were capped in white aluminum.

Can the storm door be a different color from the door behind it?

Yes. A storm door can be its own accent color. On the Annandale house above, the entry doors are white and the storm doors over them are Mountain Berry Red, one of ProVia’s storm door colors. Because storm doors were part of the order, the new entry doors were ordered sized for a storm door on the brickmold. ProVia’s other storm door colors are on this page.

Can a new door open the same way as my old one?

Yes, and on most replacements it should. Which side the hinges are on, and whether the door swings in or out, is set when the door is ordered, so we record it at the final measurement. On this Annandale job the kitchen and basement doors are otherwise identical but hinge on opposite sides, each matching the door it replaced. What happens between the estimate and install day?

A final measurement, then drawings. For this Annandale project, our team took final measurements, the office sent renderings of all four doors to the homeowner, and the office asked the homeowner to approve them in writing before anything was ordered. Doors are built to order, so that approval step is where colors, handing and hardware get locked in.

Will my Annandale HOA care about a red storm door?

Some Annandale neighborhoods have HOAs with rules on exterior colors, while many older subdivisions only have a civic association.
