A Lorton front door and matching storm door

This Lorton homeowner wanted a new front door and a storm door that matched it, without losing two things already on the house: the decorative millwork around the entry and the security sensor. The work order and job file spelled both out. The crew removed the old storm door, the old entry door, its interior casing and its exterior trim, and left the decorative millwork in place. In went a ProVia Heritage six-panel fiberglass door, red outside and white inside, and a ProVia Spectrum full-view storm door in the same red, ordered together so the storm door was sized to fit the new door’s brickmold.

Should I replace the storm door with the front door?

If you want a storm door at all, yes. A storm door hangs on the entry door’s brickmold, so ordering both together means the storm door is built for the new frame instead of being adjusted to fit later. Can you keep my decorative trim and alarm sensor?

Yes, if you tell us at the estimate. We write it into the work order, the way the Lorton job above listed “decorative mill work will remain in place.” On that job the old storm door, entry door, interior casing and exterior trim came out, and new interior casing went in. Alarm wiring belongs to your alarm company, so let them know your install day.
