How much does door replacement cost in Fairfax Station?
Across Northern Virginia, including Fairfax Station, most entry doors run $1,800–$5,500 installed, and most French and sliding patio doors run $2,500–$6,500. A single steel door with clear glass sits toward the bottom; a double French door, decorative glass, sidelites or a custom size can push toward the top. Most of our entry-door customers choose fiberglass. Those are the common jobs, not the only ones, and anything outside them we price on request. Other styles and options are available, so reach out if you don’t see what you want.
- Style: single entry, French pair, multi-panel French or slider
- Glass: clear, decorative, or blinds sealed between the panes
- Size: a standard door, or one built to an unusual opening
- Hidden rot under an old sill or in the casing, fixed before the new frame goes in

Two hinged patio doors replaced with French doors
One of two hinged patio doors on this Fairfax Station house had let water in under its sill, in the sun room. Both openings got ProVia French doors: three panels from the sun room out to the deck, and a pair from the kitchen to the covered deck. Each old door came out with its frame and threshold, and new casing went up inside to match the rest of the house. They had already trusted us with their roof and front door, so this was a return visit.

A basement French door and a custom-size kitchen slider
A second Fairfax Station homeowner hired us for a ProVia steel French door in the basement, plus a kitchen sliding door and two ProVia picture windows on a separate contract. At the final measurement before ordering, the kitchen opening turned out taller than the standard-size slider on the contract. We switched the order to a custom-size ProVia Aspect slider that fits the existing opening, added framing at the top and bottom for a tight fit, and included the minor drywall touch-up. The one trade-off: blinds sealed between the glass are not made for a door that tall, so the custom door went in without them.

What if my door opening is not a standard size?
We find out before anything is ordered. Doors are sold in standard sizes, and the first measurement at the estimate is for pricing. Before the order goes in, the crew chief measures again. If an opening is off-standard, as that kitchen was, you hear about it then. A custom size can carry an added charge, and you are told before the order goes in.
French door or sliding door?
It comes down to floor space and how you use the opening. A French door swings, so it needs clear room in front of it; in return you get a wide-open doorway, like the three-panel French door in the sun room above. A slider never swings into the room, which suits a kitchen where the table sits close to the glass. Our French vs. sliding doors guide compares them side by side.
Why replace the whole frame, not just the door?
Because the frame and sill are usually where the damage is. The sun room door above had let water get under its sill, and a new door hung in that old frame would have sat on the same water damage. We take out the door, frame and threshold together, and any soft wood we find is replaced before the new unit goes in. For doors close to the ground, like a basement walkout, ProVia’s FrameSaver frame is worth asking about.
Do Fairfax Station HOAs review door changes?
Usually only when something changes. A same-style, same-color door replacement tends to clear review quickly; a new color or a different style is worth checking with your committee first. We supply the product data sheets and manufacturer color names for the application. We work closely with the committees, we have a great relationship with plenty of HOAs, and it has never been a problem for us.
Door questions from Fairfax Station homeowners
Do you paint the new door trim?
No. Every door includes primed interior casing, and painting or staining it is left to you. We do not do interior or exterior painting.
Can a sliding door have blinds between the glass?
On the ProVia Aspect slider in a standard size, yes. A custom door as tall as the kitchen slider on this page cannot take them, so that door went in without blinds.
What warranty comes with a ProVia door?
On the ProVia French doors on this page: ProVia’s lifetime transferable warranty on the door, 10 years from ProVia on the insulated glass, and our own lifetime warranty on the installation.
