Do you replace and install skylights?

Yes. We replace worn out skylights and install new ones, and we are a VELUX Skylight Specialist. Most of our skylight work happens during a roof replacement, when the skylight, its flashing and the roof around it can all be done right in one visit by our own crews.

When is it time to replace a skylight?

A skylight is usually due for replacement when you see any of these:

• Water stains on the ceiling or drywall around the skylight opening.
• Fogging or moisture trapped between the panes, which means the glass seal has failed.
• A cracked, yellowed or brittle plastic dome on an older skylight.
• Rusted, bent or lifting flashing around the frame on the roof.
• A roof replacement coming up while the skylight is already several years old.

Should I replace my skylight when I replace my roof?

In most cases, yes. A skylight is sealed into the roof with its own flashing, and that flashing ties into the shingles around it. When the roof comes off, replacing the skylight and its flashing at the same time means the new roof and the skylight start their lives together, and nobody has to cut into a new roof later.

What types of skylights do you install?

We install VELUX skylights, including fixed skylights that let in light, venting skylights that open for fresh air (manual or solar powered), and Sun Tunnel tubular skylights for hallways, bathrooms and closets where a full skylight will not fit.

Do you repair leaking skylights?

No. Sunshine Contracting is a replacement company, so a leaking or failed skylight is replaced, not patched. The one exception is warranty service on a skylight we installed.

What does skylight replacement cost?

Price depends on the size and type of skylight (fixed, venting, solar powered or Sun Tunnel), the roof pitch, the condition of the opening, and whether the work is done together with a roof replacement.
