Home Improvement Contractors Advice Using Windows That Came Out Tests Well
What is window testing and how should this affect my buying decision?
While beauty and price are certainly factors in making a decision on purchasing replacement windows, durability and functionality should also play a role in the decision. There are organizations such as the National Fenestration Rating Council that can provide consumers with information on the strength of the glass (called the R-value) as well as the energy efficiency of the window as a whole.
While specific manufacturers conduct the tests, the NFRC monitors them to ensure that specific guidelines are followed. A NFRC rating will include such information as the U-Factor (how well the window manages to keep heat from escaping), the solar heat gain coefficient (how well the window manages to block heat from the sun from entering) and air leakage (the amount of air that is able to pass through the window assembly).
