We have provided home improvement services for over twenty years so whatever county you reside in, our team of roofing experts have got you covered.

When appearance matters, many homeowners look to cedar shake shingles for their roof and get the added benefit of durability.  There are different levels of quality in cedar shake shingle products – cedar shakes come in medium weight or heavy weight.  Depending on what you choose also affects the warranties available with the shakes.  The natural, not treated shakes have no warranty.  Pressure Treated Medium Shakes carry a 40 yr warranty, Pressure Treated Heavy Shakes carry a 50 yr warranty, while Fire Treated Shakes carry a 40 or 50 yr warranty, depending on which weight is chosen. The fire treatment option makes the cedar shakes a Class C fire coding – this is an additional cost/option.

Our Cedar Shake Roof Process

When you contact Sunshine Contracting to set up your free in-home consultation, our office will work together with you to find a time convenient for you for our Project Consultant to meet with you at your home. At the consultation, we will discuss your cedar shake roof replacement.  During your appointment, our consultant will review our Eagleview GPS Satellite Report of your roof. This report shows aerial photos and takes all the measurements of your home and allows us to provide you with an accurate estimate.  When you decide to replace the roof on your home, there are many different options for you to choose from. It can be overwhelming for a homeowner, so we strive to give you as much information as possible and help guide you along the process to make it as easy and stress free as possible for you.  After all, remodeling the exterior of your home should be an enjoyable process!

Once you decide to move forward with Sunshine Contracting for your roof replacement, your Project Manager will give you a call and introduce themselves to you, as well as let you know of the next steps. Your roofing material will be ordered first and once the material has arrived, we will call you to schedule an installation date.  Depending on the size of the job, roof jobs, on average, take about 1-2 days to complete.   When the job is complete, we will pick up and dispose of all trash and debris and leave you with a beautiful new exterior!

Our Cedar Shake Roof Crews

Our roof crews are trained and certified and take pride in the work they do!  Feel free to ask our crew chief Manny any questions you may have while on the job.  Manny and his crews have worked for Sunshine Contracting for over 10 years!  In our opinion, they are the hardest working crews in the industry, often working from sunrise to sunset during the summer hours.  Being part of the Sunshine Contracting roof crew means that our guys do everything in their power to do exceptional work, worthy of being on their very own homes.

When installed properly, shake shingles can provide years of weather protection, although they do require more maintenance than other types of roofing materials. Cedar shake roofs should be sealed every 5-10 years in order to protect the lifespan of the shingles. Periodic cleaning is also necessary to keep the roof free of fungus.

Installation & Underlayments

Installing cedar shake roofing shingles is also different than asphalt shingles in that a solid underlayment is not usually used. Special wood shake underlayments are used in order to keep the roof and shingles properly ventilated. Installation of cedar shake roofing also required the use of special nails and, when used, special ridge cap shingles.
