Are there different classifications of doors and what are the differences?
Homeowners have two levels of doors they can choose from: consumer-grade and professional-grade. Consumer-grade doors are an inexpensive option for homeowners and are generally sold through many home improvement superstores. However, in most instances, you get what you pay for. Consumer-grade doors use lower quality materials to help keep the cost down but this often results in a door that cannot withstand the beating it will take from being exposed to the elements.
Professional-grade doors, such as those from ProVia, are made from high quality steels and aluminum and usually contain approximately 50 percent more steel than consumer-grade ones. Locks and deadbolts on professional-grade doors are also generally reinforced for extra strength and protection.
