Home Improvement VA – How is the sound performance of walls, ceilings, and floors measured?
There are two rating systems you need to be aware of, the Sound Transmission Class (STC) and the Impact Insulation Class (IIC).
STC measures the sound control performance of walls and ceilings, and the higher the number, the better the performance. IIC measures the sound control performance of floors and ceilings on footfalls and other impact sounds.
To increase the sound control performance of your floors, walls, and ceilings, reducing the noise levels in your home, use high-quality insulation such as gypsum boards and fiber glass manufactured by CertainTeed.
