If you purchase an energy-efficient roof, such as one with a solar reflective coating, you’re entitled to an energy tax credit of up to $500, according to the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act passed in 2010.
You’re not eligible for the tax credit if you have already taken an energy-efficiency tax credit worth more than $500 between 2006 and 2010.
Don’t forget that many states encourage consumers to use energy-efficient products, and your state may do so as well. This means you may get other financial incentives on top of the federal energy tax credit. Check your state regulations.
